Scrapbooking has become a major hobby and passion for some artistic/crafty folks. Scrapbook pages can reflect anything – a day, an event, a year, a hobby, a sport, or a vacation. Everyone could benefit from a couple of new ideas for scrapbook pages, and this describes some ideas for scrapbooking a family vacation.
Use Postcards in Scrapbook Pages
A good idea is to purchase a couple extra postcards after the ones intended for mailing. On one of the extra cards, write out a description of the most fun things that happened during the vacation, an anecdote, a phrase, or what was seen or visited. Then send the postcard home! This way, when it arrives, it will bear the postal ink stamp with the date and city it was mailed from, plus it will get a slightly weathered look from traveling by post. When it arrives at home, paste it letter-side up on the scrapbook page.
With the second extra postcard, keep it blank to paste in the scrapbook picture-side up. Choose a card with a photograph of a famous site or a special place, preferably with wording that names the place.
Use Roadmaps as Background for Scrapbook Pages
Find a cheap but new roadmap of the state or states that were vacationed in. Cut the map into a square, with the city or cities visible that were visited. Choose whether to have the city directly in the middle of the page, or off to the side with pictures and postcards around it. Cut the square to be slightly smaller than the actual scrapbook page – this gives it the appearance of a border. Mark with hand-drawn stars or highlight the cities that were visited.
Take Digital Pictures of Family Members with Tourist Attractions
To prove that a site was actually visited, make sure to take pictures with family members next to a famous landmark or with it in the background. These are perfect for printing out at home and pasting into a scrapbook. Use photograph printer paper – these printed photos look like actual photos from the store, and will last longer and hold up better to being cropped and pasted.
Keep Receipts from Visited Places
A receipt from a special store or a gift shop from an attraction will look great in a scrapbook, since it will bring a touch of the place with it. Plus, it will also be a reminder of what prices were like the year of the vacation.
Use Packages or Gift Bag Inserts for a Scrapbook Page
Sometimes memorabilia of special value or from a special place have an insert in the packaging. The insert describes where it was made, how it was made, what it is made of, and why it is so important to the community where it’s sold. For example, a real sand dollar magnet with some glitter and the wording “Sunset Beach” came packaged with an insert that described the legend of the sand dollar – which is perfect for the scrapbook of someone who proudly displays the magnet on their refrigerator. Also, the bag that displays the store name can be cut and cropped to fit in the corner of a scrapbook page.
Journaling on Scrapbook Pages
What makes a scrapbook so different from a photo album is its ability to be so diversified! Anything flat that can be glued down can be put in a scrapbook – so go ahead a write a note about what was seen, learned, heard, or what feelings were invoked during vacation, and paste it in amongst the pictures and postcards. Children’s handwriting changes with the years, so it will be cute to look back at the page from a past vacation and see their notes. It will be visible proof of how much family members have grown up.
It’s always nice to see what other fellow scrapbookers have for ideas, and these are just a few for scrapbooking family vacations.
